Having experienced Prince John’s cruelty first-hand, she is disgusted and afraid of his power and personality. However, she realises that she must keep him satisfied in order to stay alive, and plays along with his flirtation. Her ties with Gisbourne are weak, as she has not seen him since she was a child. She feels no love or loyalty towards the bitter and twisted man he is now, especially as it was he who sold her into an unhappy marriage. She dislikes Gisbourne’s paymaster, the Sheriff of Nottingham, who is desperate for power and money, and keeps out of his way as much as possible. Isabella’s real loyalties lie with Robin, the man she is falling in love with, and his outlaws, who she knows to be doing good.
Personality: Isabella is very determined. Tired of being used by her abusive husband, she struggled to find her inner strength with which she used to run away from him and make her own way in the world. She is no longer the naïve child she once was – she has been through too much for that. She is now a hardened, shrewd woman. Although Isabella was severely damaged by her marriage, she fights to not let her sad past control her, and look to the future. Just now, as she learns to find her feet, she is learning to love those around her, especially Robin Hood, fugitive from the law.

Now, ten years later, she has fled from him and sought sanctuary with her elder brother, Sir Guy of Gisbourne. However, she was caught up with Robin Hood and his band of outlaws, and is now beginning to fall in love with her brother’s arch enemy. She struggles to deal with Prince John’s flirtation and cruel ways, and is performing a deadly balancing act between good and evil. Can Isabella survive in the web of deception she has been forced to spin…?

Sample Role-Play (Show us what you've got!) Isabella sat nervously by the river, her senses alert to all that was going on around her. A sparrow chirped loudly in a nearby tree, its mottled brown feathers camouflaging it in the earthy colours of the forest. Isabella winced at the piercing sound it made, silently willing it to end its song. She sighed, leaning towards the blanket of water before her and dipping her hand into it. The ripples it made and the coolness of the water calmed her, and she breathed deeply, smelling the deep scent of the forest. She studied her pale reflection carefully, wondering if she was at all pretty. Her jet-black hair tumbled over her shoulders, and her cold blue eyes stared back at her. Suddenly, she heard a new sound mingle in with the other voices of the forest – the slow treading of footsteps. She spun around to see the figure emerging through the trees. Smiling, she walked towards him.
“Robin,” she sighed, “You came.”
