Roe laughed to himself silently. If he had indeed known his future or what it might have looked like he would have tried to end it years ago. "No. I would never say or think such a thing. When I left here I did not have any future. But I was trained to be a carpenter and a builder. That means you have to plan or at least observe and remember. Its really strange what you remember and whatyo are able to forget. You remember where a stand of trees should be, but a lot of the people you should remember from that time are just a blur. The mind is a strange thing is not," he said as he pulled at some loose timbers in the roof of the building.

"Perhaps that is because you meet so many people in one lifetime, that it becomes impossible to remember them all?" She smiled softly, having remembered hearing her mother telling her the exact same words not all that long ago.

Roe laughed again, but this time audibly, "You I would remember, without doubt," then turning quiet serious, "just as I remember the woman who I left behind when I voyaged to the Crusades." One life had died, and another was beginning, and perhaps a third one was now starting, at least he could hope, couldn't he?

"I am most certainly a hard person to forget." She frowned softly at his words. "A love?"

Post by Sir Guy of Gisborne. on Apr 26, 2009 19:26:21 GMT
The hooves of the many horses approaching the village drummed against the ground, and echoed slightly, through the small circle of closely packed houses. Some people came out of their dwellings to investigate - And then proceeded to run back inside again. Guy of Gisborne sat astride his midnight black horse, a cold, dark look in his eyes. He had been told - Through an unamed source - That there were outlaws in this particular village. He would not rest until he had them. They might have useful information, as to the whereabouts of Hood and his men.
He glanced around the small centre of the village, his eyes flitting backwards and forwards, from house to house. Even the men seemed to shy away from his invading gaze. Now that he was back, and no longer with John, he would make sure that everyone knew he had arrived once again.
"Outside! All of you!"
He yelled coldly, the words seemingly reverberating through each house.

Her eyes flicked in the direction of the hoofbeats, and she shrank back into the shadows of her house, nervous of the intimidating men that rode into the town..

Gisborne dismounted his horse with a swift leap, landing perfectly on the ground. He glanced down in disgust for a mere moment. His leather boots were covered in mud. Ignoring that, he took a couple of slow steps around the centre of the town.
"OUT!"
Gisborne commanded, drawing his sword.

She watched as the villagers flocked to stand to attention, still half hidden in the shadows herself, too scared to come out.

Roe was just about ready to answer her question about a 'love', when his eyes were drawn to the hoofbeats that pounded into town. The tall and dark man drew a long-sword that he had not seen drawn with such heat since he had fought in the Crusades. However, his swords were deep inside the structure, and all he had, close at hand was his axe.
After considering his various options, he jumped down from the roof, noting that the young Scarlett woman had withdrawn to her cottage. Just leaning up against his axe, but being as respectful as possible, he asked, "What assistance do you require, sir?"

Gisborne looked towards the source of the voice, his own cold and harsh as he spoke. He cared not for the emotional feelings of those within the town - The same way he didn't want anything from them but their money.
"Your taxes are overdue. The Sheriff wants his money."
Stating his purpose here was all well and good, although there had been rumours of a new tax collector, who used brute force to claim his money from the peasants. Could Gisborne be a cruel, harsh match for him, or would he simply look weak...?

Roe sensed that this one was not one who likely would be appreciative of anything that was said or done. He thought it just as likely that if the correct amount were provided he would suddenly double the amount. He had seen others similar to him in oppressive feudal areas in western Europe, especially in France and Spain.
He also sensed that he was not an ordinary tax collector, or he would have announced himself. Additionally, he didn't think it normal for an ordinary tax collector to travel with his own private guard. Roe through a quick glance at Anna. "Sir, several us our new residents, how often and what amount is owed?," trying to remain as cooperative-appearing as possible, while he figured out what the best course of action might be.

"Ten crowns from every family."
The tax had increased a large amount since the last time Gisborne had collected from the village - A thousand crowns was a lot for the Sheriff to get together, every month. Every tax had been increased, on every man, woman and child, to see that John did not go without any of his money, for the campaign against Richard.
"Every month."

Roe found this to be interesting. Why such an exorbitant sum, even for someone with the Sheriff's reputation this was out of the ordinary. Or was this one perhaps taking a cut off the top. "Does that even apply to families of 1 person, who have been here only days, or at the very least, less than a month." Roe saw no need to be overly confrontational, especially since it was clear that this was exactly what this man was looking for, someone to make an example of.

She watched the two men from the shadows of her house, too scared by the man on horseback to reveal herself. It was best she stayed hidden, for now at least..

"Every person."
Gisborne snapped coldly, staring right at him. He took a couple of steps forwards, towards the man who appeared to be defying him so boldly. Did the man not know who he was...?
"Are you resisting...?"
Gisborne's words were slow and cold, clearly ennunciated as he stared right at him, clearly looking for someone to pick a fight with. His nature was once again getting the better of him.
