Life Story: (Everything that's happened to your character so far in their lives)
Robert was the only son in a noble family from the Nottingham area. His father had been a baron, but both of his parents had died, and the Earl of Huntingdon had generously agreed to be his guardian. Robert, therefore, became the ward of the Earl. This was good since his family had lost the lands and title, his mother dying from illness, and his father dying in a foreign war and the lands and title being sold to pay off his debts. Despite being of noble descent, his lack of title or lands meant that he needed to learn a trade. He had a predisposition for carpentry .... so he was apprenticed to a young carpenter in Locksley, Daniel Scarlett, and was and became fairly skilled at his chosen trade.
Roe had grown up with his guardian’s grandson, Robin, who would eventually be heir to the Earl’s title and lands, through his father. Robert was about 7 when he was born. As the young Robin grew, Roe tried to impart what knowledge he had of the bow, and of the forest, in addition to what the young Robin was shown by his father, much as an older brother might. Roe taught him what he could, about the bow and the forest, and how people should be treated with respect. They would always be separate, though, one the future Earl, and the other a future carpenter, with noble blood, and especially after Roe began his apprenticeship they began to drift apart. As Dan’s apprentice, he of course learned much, and played simple games with Dan’s son Will, and whittled some small wooden toys for him to play with. By the time Will was 5 though, Robert had left the apprenticeship.
By the time he had reached 18, even before he had decided what path his life would fall, as often happens, he fell in love with a girl about his own age from the village. One thing led to another, and they desired to be married. Although Roe was not due to inherit a ttle or lands, the Earl did not feel that she would be a proper wife for his ward. The Earl forbade him to see her again, neither of them knowing that she was with child. A fierce argument ensued, the final result being a final break with the Earl. The young war swore bitterly that he would leave and never return. So he turned his back on his home and family, and left suddenly, avoiding any tearful goodbyes. The people that he would miss most were the Scarletts the young Robin, and the girl that he had wanted for his wife.
He decided to seek adventure in the Crusades, first in the Iberian Peninsula, fighting the Moors, and later in the Holy Land with Frankish forces. He used skills that he had developed as a carpenter and became a military engineer, as well as a skilled fighter, building siege towers, and catapults, and bridges. Soon after he had left for the continent he had word sent back that he had died defending some of his comrades, so the people who he had known would forget about him and not worry about the possibility of his return.
He fought across the Holy Land with a group of French knights, eventually being named one himself. He participated in the defense of Jerusalem, with Balian in the ’87, but the carnage left little appetite in him for further bloodshed. He eventually became disillusioned with the Crusades, but he dreamed of the possibility of more worthwhile causes to fight for, and returned home. However, he didn't want to resume his old life, and since he been gone many years and had changed considerably, nobody recognized him, which suited him just fine. There were just a few that he thought might be able to eventually.
He had no idea of the changes and oppression that he would find in his old country. He had originally thought that he would just pass through to see how things were. He found that the Earl’s lands had been taken over by another, and 2 of his closest friends, the Scarletts, had died in unusual circumstances, but that Robin was still alive. But he did not really want to dredge up old memories and disrupt lives …. so he decided he decided to keep his identity secret, at least for a time, if he could prevent it. It would just result in less pain that way.
Anything else? He discovered quite quickly that the group that he wanted to ally himself with was fighting the Sheriff of Nottingham, which was led by Robin Hood, which he found curiously amusing. He felt the most comfortable in standing up with and supporting the many outlaws who stood with Robin, although he wasn’t ready to be blatant about it yet.

Sample Role-Play (Show us what you've got!) Roe slowly walked up to the well. Since she appeared to have a bucket, although a somewhat leaky one, it was possible that her task had been to acquire some from the well. Or maybe she had just stopped for some water on her way to another destination along this route. There just wasn’t enough information for Roe to figure it out, at least not yet.
“My life” she seemed to respond …. as if she was going to pay with her life for some damnable transgression. Whatever, the case she seemed to have lost something valuable, and she seemed just beside herself that she had lost it. She seemed to be so fixed on her loss that Roe was unsure whether she had even heard him the first time. “Lass, did you lose something of value down the well. I would be happy to see if it can be retrieved, if you would like.”
Instead of a look of appreciation of his offer, he seemed to be greeted by a look somewhere between fear and apprehension, with it being closer to fear. “You have no reason to be concerned about from me, I didn’t mean to give you any idea that I was looking to take anything from you.” Her attitude did seem to change somewhat, since she didn’t appear to be as threatened by Roe’s appearance. “Sorry, the wells free now” She seemed to be accepting her situation, whatever that was. However, as her attitude became less threatened, he continued to be concerned that there was still the possibility that this was some kind of trap. He knew that the Forest was the home to several groups of outlaws, and all of the vegetative growth around the well would provide such folks excellent cover. He did not hear or see anything overtly suspicious, and she continued to strike him as someone who was deeply depressed about something. “The water’s kind of mucky” Finally, Roe, relatively satisfied that there were no hidden dangers around the well, walked up to where the despondent girl was. “Well …. Yes …. I would say that you are quite right about that,” looking in her bucket. “All I was interested in, actually, was a cool cup of water. I wasn’t prepared, though, for such a sad face, that should by all rights, have a much happier expression. So, tell me, truthfully, what problems are you having. You never know, I might be able to help. What do you have to lose, eh?”
