She seemed to be enjoying the conversation, but he was unsure how she was enjoying the trip to Nottingham, even though they were takingcthe easier, if longer path back.
"If you do not mind my asking, why are you traveling in the forest alone, to be at the mercy of outlaws?"
Tuck smiled at her question. It was quite a logical one he had to admit, and since she was apparently running to escape from someone, it was something she would like to understand.
"I would doubt that a poor friar, such as myself would be of a high level of interest for most outlaws, who would be looking for far richer targets. Besides I am well known to the outlaws in these parts, and as a rsult, my child, are unlikely to bother me since they know that I am sympathetic to their aims. They are loyal to King Richard and the common people of Britain, as in large measure I would be as well."
Despite taking the longest route through the forest, in relatively short order they reached the edge of the forest, pasing by the village of Locksley. In the distance they could already see the tallest towers of the exterior walls of Nottingham, and Tuck knew that they would be able to be at the Priory by nightfall as long as they maintained their pace.

Amelia looked at the towering walls and the tall towers appear on the horizon. She could not help but smile.
"I have not seen anything like this since i left Ireland" She said. The town where she lived was not at all spectacular but she often traveled with her old master to the large towns.
She looked around as she walked taking in everything she saw because she did not know how long she would be here before she had to leave.

Tuck watched his traveling companion as they moved out of the woods in full view of Nottingham. He had known her long, but it was clear that she was a person of few words. He could tell by her facial expressions and her body language that the appearance of the city had an impact on her, and a positive one from the smile on her face.
"If you are impressed by Nottingham you should go and viit London sometime. Besides, you should have seen the activity of this place before the likes of Prince John and present High Sheriff have been in charge, from what I've been told. Still, you can expect Nottingham will look different upon closer inspection. If we hurry we can still reach the Priory by nightfall."
She did pick up the pace quite easily. Despite the condition she had been in when he had come across her, and her general frail appearance, she had made their trip fairly well. In fact, he thought, she had been deceptively strong. He checked himself when he considered the hardships that she must have overcome to reach this point and the family she had left behind, if any remained. It would be interesting at some pint to hear her entire story, if she chose to give it.

Amelia remained in silence as the walked. She had started to think about Ireland and about the beauty she had left behind. What did Tuck mean about Nottingham being different on closer inspection?
"What do you mean?" She asked "Is Nottingham that bad?"

Tuck was a bit amused by how rapidly she jumped to conclusions. However, he reasoned, this is like ann entirely new world to her. Everything that she knew was undoubtedly based on what she had experienced under a cruel master. She would probably be suspicious of everyone and everything. In fact, he wondered why she wasn't more suspicious of him.
"Amelia, few places, unless we are talking about Sodom and Gomorrah, had inherently and completely evil. Everyplace looks different, and is different, when we experience it close up than from a distance. From a distance we see only the general outlines .... we are impressed with a places size or lack of it. However, when we are close up we can see the details, both good and the bad. From a distance you can't see the people and what they are like. You can't see the details of the fine architecture. Also, you can't see the evil of the Sheriff and Prince John either, but you will be shielded from that, and from the evil of any that may be chasing you .... in the Priory with the Sisters."

Amelia heard this and a cold shiver down her spine. She would be happy to get to the priory, to safety where she could sleep without having to worry about her surroundings.
"How far is it?" She asked hoping it wasn't to far because her feet were beginning to protest again.

Tuck would feel better about Amelia once he got her within the safe confines of the Priory. He was looking forward to talking with Sister Magdalene as well. He needed some advice, or at least some confirmation of whether he should go back to the outlaws and help them with their plan to thwart Prince John or stay and assist the Sisters in the Priory. "How far is it?"
Tuck had sensed from the way that she had been waking over the last couple of hours that her feet were hurting or she was getting more fatigued, or a mixture of both. "Don't worry, the Priory is right within the city gates so it should be no more than a half-hour until we are there."

Amelia felt relieved she could not wait to be off her feet and being able to sleep. Every muscle in her body were breathing a collective sigh of relief as they continued walking.
"The people here look like they have had the life drained from them" She said as she looked around.

"The people here look like they have had the life drained from them."
Tuck knew that the people of Nottingham, like most of England were a resilient lot, but even they had their limits. Tuck wondered if Ling Richard knew what his subjects were living through whether he would waste any time getting back to his kingdom.
"It is amazing what enough tyranny andoppresion can do over time. After awhile of getting beaten down you just keep your head down to keep out of the line of fire. All these people just need a leader to show them what o do. They need to know they have someone who will fight for them, and someone is Robin Hood. However, your patron right right now is Sister Magdalene and the Sisters of the Priory. Here we are," and Tuck proceeded to knock loudly on the thick oaken door of the Priory.

Amelia heard the name Robin Hood. Every where she had been in this country she had heard the name Robin Hood. She looked at the priory.
"I have heard the name Robin Hood" She said "Have you ever met him?"

It was now early in the evening. Tuck realized, though, that it was likely that several of the Sisters had probably retired for the evening. Therefore, he knew i was likely that he would have to knock several times. In the meantime he saw that Amelia was inspecting the massive front of the Priory as they waited.
"I have heard the name Robin Hood .... She said "Have you ever met him?"
Tuck smiled at her comment and question. "Yes, most people in these parts have heard the name and some have even met him. That forest that we just exited, in fact is his domain. And yes ... I have met him .... and from what I can tell the man is very close to what the legend says that he is, and we are quite fortunate that he is on the side of right and a defender of the poor and the oppressed. Without him most of these common poor would have nothing and no one to protect them."

Amelia felt a sudden happiness and the fear washed away. Thank god there was someone willing to do anything for the people. There was no-one like that back in Ireland.
"How long do we have to wait?" She asked while a giant smile crossed her lips.
She wanted to brighten the mood a little but the fact that she was sore and tired kept weighing down on her.

There was the sound of a latch being lifted and a small window opened in the door. Lamplight shone behind the figure of a nun. "Its late. Who are you and what do you require from the Sisters of Charity?" Sister Magdalene asked. From the spy hole in the door, she could see the rough outlines of two people, one man and possibly one woman. Raising her lamp higher so the light shone on their faces, Mags exclaimed then hurriedly drew back the heavy bolt of the door. It grated noisily as it moved. "Bless me! Tuck, what are you doing here at this hour? And who have you brought me now?" Sister Mags gave a small smile at Amelia then stood back, "Well come in, come in out of the night air. Of all the visitors I might have expected, you weren't one of them, my friend." Sister Magdalene turned and placed the lamp on a rickety table by the door. (ooc: I suggest the next post is put in the Priory House forum. Call it what you will. ))

"Sister Magdalene, I have brought this child as one who is seeking a calm harbor to protect from a stormy sea. I had just left Robin to come consult you over some issues that were troubling me and ran across this young lady in the Forest. She is the best to tell you her story, but I do know that she is trying to escape some who were her masters. She is originally from Ireland. I know very little of the rest of her story, but knew the only place of relative safety would be with you. I suggest that you ascertain her story and do what you can for her. We can talk about my isues when her situation is more settled."
