Allan A Dale sat on a bench in the great hall, he watched the servants go by, he watched the guards patrol and he watched the nobles and their groveling ways.
Every time something happened in Nottingham you could tell the events nature by the atmosphere in the great hall, if it was Robin annoying the Sheriff then the great hall would be full of guards and Sir Guy would be standing in a corner fuming, if it was something good for Vasey then tables would be laid out and there would be a feast, if it was a day for plotting you wouldn’t be able to get into the great hall and there would be guards at every entrance and if it was just a plain, boring day, there would be a few servants, a few nobles and maybe Gisbourne or Vasey.
Today was a boring day, the servants all looked lethargic, the guards were less alert than usual and Sir Guy was nowhere in sight, a boring day… or so it seemed.
Allan was leaning against a wall, the heat had forced him to forgo his black leathers and a white loose shirt and dark leather leggings, he managed to escape notice without his usual outfit and heard more conversations then he usually did as Sir Guy’s man.
He was having trouble staying awake as his thoughts turned to Katerina, the beautiful and intelligent new noble in the castle.
Katerina Roselyn De’Amore of Luxembourg, he had been studying her, finding out information about her from the Lady’s servants. Katerina intrigued Allan, she was a very rare kind of noble, it was obvious from the ease with which she handled a warhorse that she was trained in more than reading and writing, she was bold, but not so bold that she would get herself killed, from the history Allan had picked up from the servants, Katerina came from a very loyal, very proud line.
Allan didn’t notice the hours passing, or the servants’ comings and goings, as he thought about Lady Katerina.
