The sun shone through the cracks in the ever aging thatched roof of the stable, dappling warm golden light upon the straw, horses and stable boy, hard at work, within it. Straighting his back as he stood up from bending over, Sebastian slowly ran his fingers through his scruffy hair, pushing his fringe off his forehead, and exposing his sparkling blue eyes as he gazed down at the broom he was holding. He bent back down again and brushed the dirty stable floor roughly and sighed in frustration. He didn't mind his job, in fact he liked it here, being amongst all the horses in the castle grounds, but it was, at time, somewhat exasperating for he longed to do more with his life than just muck out stables. He wanted more fun and more freedom.

Isabella looked around the stables and saw the scruffy-haired boy at his work. She had wanted to be alone for a while - to take out one of the horses and go for a ride, all by herself. No-one was around at the castle at the moment, and she wanted to seize the opportunity to get a bit of freedom. But that was only possible if nobody saw her leave. She looked at the stable boy, wondering if he had heard her come in yet. There was no way that he would not notice her take one of the horses and go - but maybe she could just leave without him realising she had ever been there. Suddenly, as she tried to leave the stables, she knocked over one of the brooms and it fell to the floor with a loud clang. Darn it, she thought angrily.

Startled by the sudden loud clang behind him, Sebastian snapped out of the dreamy state he was in and turned to see who or what had caused the noise. On the other side of the stables facing him, was a young noble woman whom he had seen here before but had never once spoken to her. "Hello..." he said in a low husky voice, smiling politely and standing up and straight as he brushed some of the straw and mud off of his trousers. "I'm Sebastian... I've seen you around here before I think... you live in the castle don't you?" he asked in a friendly manner. Although he was fairly shy around people that he did not know well, Sebastian was always one for starting up light, friendly conversations as it was a way of stopping situations from become too tense and uncomfortable.

Lady Mary pranced into the stables. She required her horse, in order that she could have a gentle trot through Nottingham, and admire the men she rode past. However, it soon became apparent that there was no need to do this, as she saw the handsome young figure before her. She giggled to herself and glided over to him.
She nestled herself on top of him and whispered. "Hello good sir. I require some...assisstance." she said seductively, stroking his cheek with one finger. She looked deep into his blue eyes and smiled, her cherry lips puckering as she leaning in for a kiss. This lad was handsome. She couldn't let his good looks go to waste.

Stumbling backwards as this strange new arrival launched herself on top of him, Sebastian glanced around the stables, looking for some way of getting out of his current situation. "Umm..." he stuttered uncertainly as he edged further away from the lady, furrowing his brow in confusion. Who was this woman? And why was she acting like this? They had only just met, and hadn't even introduced themselves yet, but here she was, stroking his smooth cheek which was growing ever redder with embarrassment. She was a fairly pretty young woman and unless he was reading her actions in the wrong way, she seemed to find him somewhat attractive, however, she was not really his type..... But, he was just a stable hand, and it was his job to help people with their horses, so if she needed assistance, he had to oblige. "Yes.. um... of course... what do you need assistance with...?"

Isabella was shocked by Lady Mary's forward actions towards the stable boy. She had been about to introduce herself to him - after all, he seemed like a nice enough lad - when the misguided noble had thrust herself onto him. Isabella tried to hide her horror and save Lady Mary from shaming herself further. She did not know her well, but had seen her before and knew her by sight. She had not realised how improper a lady she was, and decided it was time to rescue the stable boy from further embarassment. "Lady Mary, I presume?" she said, moving towards the noblewoman and courtseying politely, "It has been to my bad fortune that we have not yet been introduced. I am Lady Isabella Thornton. It is a pleasure to meet you at last." She hoped that this would make Lady Mary feel obliged to move away from the stable boy, at least to introduce herself formally, as she should. She really was forgetting her place.

Edward marched onto the scene, carrying a bucket in his hands. He was not wearing his armor, which was what he was most usually wearing around the castle. Today was his 'day off' so to speak. But a day off still meant having to do work for the Sheriff. He was wearing a casual loose fitting shirt, tucked into his brown trousers. His high brown boots sunk into the muck that surrounded the stables, and he acknoledged it was a lifeless expression, as always.
He closed his eyes in silent thought for a few seconds, before continuing to wear the well was. The well was located right next to the stables, a strange place to put it in Edwards opinion. But from the well, he could see everything that was going on inside, through a small glassless window. He attached the bucket onto the hook, and lowered the bucket down into the well. As he did so, he glaced quickly inside the stables. There seemed to be quite a lot going on in there. For one he could see Ms Thornton. She was not looking in his direction, and seemed to be pre-occupied, so he simply turned his head to face away. He made a mental note to check what was going on in there once he had finished with his duties.

Lady Mary let go of Sebastian briefly for a nodd at Isabella. "Lady Mary" she said as politely as she could. "Glad to make your aquaintance. Now if you'll excuse me." she turned back towards Sebastian, her eyelashes fluttering. Good. He was responding.
"Oh...I think there's quite a lot you can help me with," she said in her lowest and most seductive voice. She moved a step closer to Sebastian. "Quite. Alot."

Isabella resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Lady Mary was clearly paying her no attention whatsoever. She would have to try something more to the point. "I am sure he will be able to assist you in a short while," she began, "But I am afraid that I have been sent here by his father. I happened upon him as I was passing through Nottingham, and the good man, knowing that I lived at the castle, asked that I may send his boy home, as he himself could not leave his work. Of course, I said I would come at once, not wanting to offend him. I am afraid that he has to leave - as soon as possible." Isabella knew that she was lying through her teeth, but hoped that the stable lad did not mind. Lady Mary had gone too far, and this was her only way out. She looked at the stable hand, willing him to agree with her.

Moving further away from Lady Mary, Sebastian listened intently as the other woman spoke of his father. He knew that she did not speak the truth as his father was currently in Clun staying with his brother and so assumed that she must be trying to trick him, or help him escape the clutches of Lady Mary. The latter seemed much more realistic, as there was absolutely no reason that he could think of as to why she would being trying to trick him, and so he nodded in her direction "Thank you..." he paused as he realized that he still had no idea of her name. However, right now there was no time to ask her as he needed to get away from Mary as quickly as he could. He turned to face her, and discovered that despite him moving away from her, her face was only couple of inches away from his. "Umm... well, I have to go I'm afraid Lady Mary...." he trailed off as he stood his broom up against the wall of the stable and walked swiftly past Mary and out into the streets of Nottingham, glancing back to make sure that she was not following him. When he was sure that she was staying where she was, he turned back round to look where he was going, but not in time to prevent himself fro walking straight into a tall, blonde man standing by the well and knocking the bucket of water that he was holding out of his hands, spilling cold water over both of the men.

Isabella nodded towards the stable boy as he escaped the clutches of the formidable Lady Mary. "You're welcome," she said to him, glad that she had been able to keep some of the noblewoman's dignity intact. She wondered who this boy was, and how long he had been in Nottingham. She did not seem to remember him from her previous visits to the stables. "Perhaps you would like to accompany me, Lady Mary?" she offered. She needed to give the stable boy a few minutes to get away, at least.

Edward used the rope to bring the bucket back up to the surface. As soon as it reached the mouth of the well, he grabbed it with his strong hands, and lifted it into his grasp. He cleared his throat and then made his way back to the castle.
But before he knew what was happening, he felt the cold chill of water being thrown over him, and he gasped as he also felt human contact, and a bucket on his foot. He stumbled over backwards, and desperately tried to prevent an eruption of insults to escape his lips. He wiped water out of his eyes, and looked over at whoever had bumped into him. It was the stable boy. He stood still, and stared at him for a while. He had seen him around, but hadn't eally acknoledged him. This was the first time he had. He cocked his head to one side, and then shook his head like a dog, attempting to dry his long hair. His face remained emotionless throughout.

Stumbling backwards in bewilderment and embarrassment, Sebastian sheepishly reached down to retrieve the now empty bucket that had come to rest by the man's feet and whilst doing so, began to mumble an array of apologies, keeping his eyes fixed to the ground. Standing up straight, bucket in hand, Sebastian looked up into the man's deep brown eyes, covered partly by his long, sandy coloured hair. He had seen this man around the castle grounds before, but had never once spoken to him as he had never had any need to do so.
Realizing that he was currently standing there staring at the man, he quickly snapped out of his trance and handed him back the bucket before holding out his hand to shake the man's as means of introducing himself. "Sebastian... Sebastian Lefevre..." he announced nervously, not sure of how the man would react, for he still had a neural expression upon his face.

Edwards expression remained blank, as the young man fumbled around, trying to pick up the bucket that was at his feet, and muttered whatever apoligies he could. Edward remained deadly silent, preserving his anger to take out on something else later, when no-one else would be watching. He slowly took the bucket away from Sebastian, and eyed him suspiciously. He reluctantly held out his own hand, and shook Sebastians half heartedly. "Edward. Griffin." he rumbled, and then quickly withdrew his hand.
He had not had effectionate human contact for so long, it was strange, even just shaking someones hand. As a guard, it was you're job not to touch anyone, unless you were fighting them of course. It was really the being-seen-and-not-heard concept that went for Edward and the rest of his colleages. And it was a theory that had sunk in over the years, and had made him a changed man.

Lady Mary scowled as Sebastian left the stables. This is my catch, I'm not going to let him go that easily she thought to herself, her lips pursing as she marched towards Sebastian. He seemed to already be talking to someone else, and she gasped in jealousy. So he failed to want to talk to her, but there he was, talking to a complete stranger! And a man none the less. Lady Mary let out a huff, and tapped Sebastian rudely on the shoulder. "Excuse me." she said angrily. "But I believe we were having a conversation, until you rudely abandoned me!" she yelled. She tapped her show on the ground impatiently, her hands on her hips and her shoulders hunched in annoyance.
