Lonely..

[Alexis Bailey]

Alexis had found herself feeling lonely again, for about the hundredth time today. She hadn't seen Gary for weeks, maybe months, she never was very good at keeping track of time.
With a heavy sigh, she sat down on the log closest to the campfire, staring absently into the flames. So many thoughts were moving through her mind at once now. What if he didn't like her anymore? Had he found someone else? Was he alright..?

[Much]

Much noticed that Alexis was sitting by herself. He gave her a sympathetic look, and then went over to sit next to her. Much wasn't really the best at cheering people up, but he thought he'd give it a shot. "Alexis? Is everything alright?" he said, quietly.

He guessed it was something to do with Gary. They hadn't seen each other in ages. They seemed to be perfect for each other at the time, but perhaps things just fizzled out. Much's eyes were wide with thought. There were so many problems that love seemed to cause, he wondered if there was any real point. The love he felt caused him so much pain, but at the same time, so much joy.

She didn't answer or even acknowledge him for a few moments. A soft sigh escaped her as she turned her head slightly to look at him.
"I.. I don't know Much.." she shook her head as she spoke.
Her brown eyes glossed over, tears welling up, threatening to spill. She closed them, in an attempt to fight them back, still one rolled down her left cheek. Feeling the need for comfort, she moved slightly closer to Much and lay her head on his shoulder.

There were a few moments of silence, and Much nearly came to the conclusion that Alexis wanted to be left alone. But after a while she spoke. He saw her eyes welling up, and he scratched his beard in despair. He stared away from her for a moment, confused at what to do.

And then she put her head on his sholder. Much tensed up. He slowly lifted his arm up and placed it around her and patted her back awkwardly. "There, there..." said Much. He was still not entirely sure as to what she was crying about, but he figured now was not the time for questions. He just sat in silence, continuing to pat her, ready to listen to anything she might say.

Feeling his hand on her back, she automatically cuddled up to him further. She waited a few more moments, to make sure she could speak without bursting into tears.
"What if.. what if he's.."
She got no further with that sentence, biting down hard on her bottom lip to prevent herself from crying. Though how her body was trembling slightly, showed she hadn't stopped it completely.
"I'm.. s-sorry Much.."
She suddenly felt embarrassed for breaking down like this, but it had reached the point of intolerable now..

[Much]

Much gulped. Alexis was cuddling further still towards him. It was strange having such sudden female contact, after having quite an absense from it. He had a gread deal of difficulty in understand Alexis's words. "What if he's...what...?" he asked. He guessed the 'he' was Gary.

After a while Alexis stopped sobbing, but started shuddering. Much couldn't decide which was worse. He could probably do with neither. "It's alright! Don't worry about it!" said Much through gritted teeth.

She didn't answer him, barely hearing his first words. With another, sudden sob, she turned round so she was facing him, and threw her arms around his neck. Too caught up in her own emotions to notice how uncomfortable Much was.
Once she had managed to calm herself down for the third time, she whispered in his ear, "Thank you Much.."
She moved her arms from around his neck, but stayed close to him. Quickly, she kissed him on the cheek, then lay her head on his shoulder again, closing her eyes. Though biting down on her bottom lip, to avoid any further outbreaks of sobbing.
