Luke sat, wiping fiercely at his eyes, as he rested slightly on a large stone in the middle of a small glade in the forest. Normally, he would marvel at just how beautiful Sherwood forest really was, but he was not in the mood at all this time. Of course, the forest was still beautiful with towering tress and the distant sound of wildlife, but naturally they meant nothing to him as he concentrated on much more pressing matters.
How could Will have a son? It just wasn't fair, or right at all. He was still only young, and whilst he knew that he liked the woman that didn't mean they had to have children straight away. Just looking at his brother with his new family was what had started all this off. He looked so... content. In fact, he looked the perfect image of happiness when surrounded by them and that was something he had never managed to give his brother. He looked happy he supposed, but never that happy.
Naturally, Luke felt like that was it. His brother was pleased with his son and wife, whereas what did he have? He had no friends or any family or seemed to need him anymore. There was no where left for him to go now other than be by himself. No one wanted him, or needed him so there seemed very little point in even leaving this glade.

Gary continued to wander through the forest, enjoying the spring air. He paused as he spotted Will's brother sitting on a rock nearby. He'd never really talked to the guy before, but knew a bit about him. From what he heard, he was a nice person. Name of Luke, wasn't it?
Right now, though... why did he look so upset?
Gary frowned and slowly walked over to Luke. He stopped a few meters from him.
"Hey," Gary said, smiling, "It's Luke, right?"

Luke glanced up as he heard a voice saying his name, but the thing that really interested him, and worried him, was the fact that the man was a complete stranger. He knew he was not someone he knew from his voice, but looking at him he was certainly someone who he had never seen before. Raising an eyebrow, he wondered what this man could possibly want from him being as they were not friends or family. Then again, he seemed to be more interested in him than his own friends and family were, which was something he guessed. Attempting a smile, he decided that he would be nice to this man.
"Yeah... it is Luke'' he hesitantly said. "Who are you anway and why do you know my name? I've never seen you before.''

Seeing Luke's confused expression, Gary realised it must have been stange to have a man you don't know saying your name. Luke seemed hesitant and somewhat guarded.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Gary laughed, "I'm Gary. Gary Taylor. I'm a friend of your brother. Will pointed you out to me once, but we never got introduced." He held out his hand for Luke to shake, stepping closer. He smiled again, now a little worried he was giving a bad first impression.

Luke smiled slightly wider this time, and took the man's hand to shake. Well, if he was a friend of his brothers then he couldn't be too bad he supposed. Even if Will was a traitor to him for having a wife and son, he still respected the man as a good and noble one. Surely he would not have weird or nasty friends.
"Nice to meet you then Gary'' Luke said with a smile. "Also, glad to know who you are then even if I don't recognise you as one of my brother's friends.''

Annabella stumbled through the trees, slightly disorientated from her long walk. Confused, and more than a little lost, she stumbled into the glade, leaning against a tree to catch her breath, unaware of the presence of the two men..

Gary relaxed as Luke now seemed more comfortable around him.
"Yeah, good to meet you too," Gary replied. "Although it is strange that I've never met you properly before. Your brother and I know each other pretty well." Gary smiled again before continuing. "I hope I'm not being rude but, you seemed a little... upset before I came over. Is anything wrong?"
Gary realised that this could be a slightly personal thing to ask someone he has just met, but he was naturally curious, and didn't like anyone to be sad. Especially his good friend's brother.

The voices startled her and she looked up, eyes darted nervously around the glade's other occupants.

''Yes, I suppose it is strange in a way'' Luke agreed. Normally he was very familiar with his brother's friends, for they were his as well. As a boy he had never had the need to make friends of his own, as he would usually just hang around hi sbrother and his own, as opposed to being independant. Perhaps this was a slightly clingy thing to do, and he recognised this on reflection, but there was nothing he could do about it now.
He became a lot more uncormfortable though when he asked what was wrong, and a blush soon wormed its way onto his face. ''No... nothing wrong'' he lied, and it was obvious. Looking around, he thought he could feel someone else's presence, but perhaps that was just him. As a result, he thought it best not to vocalise his thoughts.

Anna froze, half recognising the voice of one of the men, but found herself too shy to step forward, simply lingering, waiting for the right time to present herself.
She leant forward slightly, trying to hear exactly what was being said, but over reached, tumbling through the bushes that were sheltering her, and landing in a heap on the ground...

Gary didn't quite believe Luke with his 'nothing wrong'. He frowned slightly.
Before he could reply, a rustling of bushes made him spin around, hand reaching for his dagger's handle.
In front of Gary lay a young woman on the forest floor. She seemed to have fallen awkwardly, and had got some leaves and twigs caught up in her clothes and hair. She appeared harmless, and Gary did not want to be uncourteous, so he slackened the grip on the handle of his dagger and moved forward to help her up.
"Are you alright?" Gary asked. Perhaps he was being a little too uncautious, but that was just his personality.

Luke rolled his eyes when Gary decided to go and help her, as opposed to probing him further. Well, he couldn't say that he was surprised. No one ever did take any notice of him and this man was just the last in a long line. It wasn't too unexpected for him now, since he had had a lifetime of being the nameless baby brother of Will Scarlett according to Will's friends. Perhaps it was selfish just thinking of himself at a time like that, but he couldn't help it sometimes.
"You should leave her you know. She might stab you or something.''

Gary took a step back from the woman, and looked back at Luke. Maybe he was right. Gary needed to be more careful sometimes, he thought to himself. But why did Luke seem so bitter?
Gary glanced back at the woman, somewhat worriedly, then turned to Luke.
"I guess I should be more careful. Hey, Luke, are you sure you're alright? Sorry, but, you just seem a little... low. That's all."
Gary felt a bit uncomfortable asking, but this man sure was mysterious, and his emotions weren't quite normal. And in some ways, Gary already felt sort of... attached to him, because he was Will's brother.

She stood abruptly, dusting herself down and scowling at the men. "I'm fine, thank you for asking. And for your information, I don't carry a weapon, so I pose no threat to anyone." Her voice was sullen and sulky, as it always was when she was offended, and she could not help but continue to watch the two men stood before her.

Gary turned back to the woman, now feeling a little guilty. He smiled sympathetically.
"Sorry. Are you alright? I'm Gary."
He held out his hand for her to shake. He thought it'd be better deal with this woman first before talking to Luke about things which could potentially be personal.
