Please take a few moments to read these guidelines surrounding roleplaying. Whilst many on this board are new to roleplaying, the board is flourishing well. Following a few guidelines can help to make the roleplays more interesting and detailed! If you fail to follow these guidelines, however, you will be contacted by an Administrator.
1. Read the thread…
If you're going to jump into a thread, be aware of what's going on. Know who is there and who is involved in the situation. Know what happened before, not just what's going on at the moment - read through previous posts, so that you can get a feel of what's been going on before jumping straight in.
2. Check what you've written
Before posting, it's often a good idea to re-read your post and spell check it. Make sure it makes sense - it makes the roleplay work much better if the post is easy to read and in good English! That means capital letters at the beginning of a sentence or for proper nouns, and correct punctuation! I know this can be hard, so maybe use the spell checking device on pro-boards, or paste it into a word processing programme to check it before posting.
One-line answers may sometimes be necessary, but there is usually more detail you can put into a post. therefore, I will from now on be discounting any one or two-line posts from your posts towards winning 'Roleplayer of the Fortnight'.
3. Be creative…
Think of these points when role playing, to give your post more detail, and give the person replying more to write about: When? Why? Who? How? What? Consider what your character is wearing, what they feel like, and use all these points to produce a nice, long, detailed post.
4. Don't be controlling
Unless you have permission, or it's your character you are controlling, don't start saying what other characters are doing. For instance; 'Robin shot an arrow towards Guy, and as it hit him in the head he fell to the ground - blood was pouring out, and he was certainly dead.' Robin is controlling what happens to Guy, and this is unfair and makes posts get boring - it's like roleplaying with yourself.
5. Think Before You Post…
Abbreviations and text language are not suitable in roleplaying. It's not fair to someone trying to create a detailed, interesting post and storyline if they are answered with 'how r u? y aint u goin to nottingham.' Spelling, punctuation and grammar are all important! Make sure it's in the third person!
Also, please, please, please try to stay in character. If you need to make a quick OOC comment, then that's alright, when in double brackets at the end of your post. But posts solely for OOC comments will be deleted. This is what the Chat Box and PM system are for!
6. Don't Be Afraid to Ask Questions
If you're new to role-playing, don't be afraid of asking questions. Use the OOC Board and private messaging system to ask people who you like the styles of for tips, suggestions, etc. Most people are going to be happy to help you out. The three admin's of the site are Marian, Will and Djaq.
Above all, enjoy roleplaying! Thank You for reading these guidelines, and feel free to ask any questions.
